You might recognize this beautiful human as she has been around on our social these past couple of weeks. Additionally, she has been in a special guest on our blog before.
Joanna Lee is the founder of Mind of Flowers, a company that she cultivated through her own struggles with depression. She brings her desire for beauty, sustainability and comfort to people even in “their seasons of struggle” through crafting beautiful robes. Did we forget to mention that 1% of the proceeds made comes back to Yoga to Cope!
At the start of November Joanna came on our podcast, to talk about her intention behind Mind of Flowers as well as sheds light on the importance of boldly living intuitively.
You might have seen this awesome Mind of Flowers giveaway on our Instagram. This giveaway consisted of robe as well as floral note cards; set of 8. All though a winner has already been announced, YTC recommends keeping an eye out as we have a feeling we will be seeing more from Mind of Flowers in the future.
Read below for this fun piece which explores having meaning behind fashion as well as common flowers/plants and their meaning for this up and coming holiday season.
Flower Symbolism & Bringing Meaning to Fashion
Unless it’s vintage or something fun I bought traveling, I can’t tell you that any of my clothes are overly special. Tee’s, jeans, all the basics are the ones in heavy rotation and the pieces that do have a story generally hang in the back of my closet waiting for the “right occasion.” My guess is a few of you have some meaningful closet-dwellers of your own.
Working in fashion for nearly a decade, I’ve helped produce some pretty cool designs, but at the end of the day, none of them were that important. We weren’t inspiring anyone and were being controlled by constant trends, quickly putting out another sweater the world really didn’t need.
Oddly enough, I have my depression to thank (strange, I know) for sending me on a different path and creating my robe brand, Mind of Flowers, which I chat about here on the YTC podcast! Intended to give meaning to a piece you frequently wear- your robe- I design prints with flower symbolism as a way to inspire good mental health. Wanting to focus more on appreciation? You can remind yourself daily while wearing the Hydrangea robe, which flowers symbolize both appreciation and gratitude.
We just wrapped up the November giveaway with YTC and our winner, Liz, chose the Lilac Robe, which symbolizes confidence and vitality. She told me that,“Confidence is something I’m working on lately, so this will be a good reminder there are others out there like me.” Her reason is exactly why I chose to start this first collection with a lilac print. So many of us are working to build confidence, myself included, and we can absolutely use a gentle reminder to keep it up.
With winter and the holidays approaching, I thought it’d be fun to shine a little more light on some common flowers and plants of the season. If you’re into flower arranging, soap making painting, or whatever it is you like to do, you can add a bit of symbolism with these great winter options:

Pine - Courage and Vitality
